Аннотация: There are dozens of antologies available for introductory-level sociology classes, but I think this one is different. It's different because as I compiled and edited these articles, I kept the needs of introductory students in mind. That's important. When sociologiests write for their prodessional coleagues, they take for granted (as they should) that their readers are equipped with a great deal of knowledge. Student readers, by contrast, generally lack this sort of preparation. In this volume, I have tried to bridge the gap between the sociologists who wrote these articles and students who will read them.Each article begins with a brief introduction to help orient student's to the author's aims and point of view.

Аннотация: The author tried to create an introductory course that would speak to the typical first-year student who isn't planning on majoring in sociology and, indeed, may not even know what sociology is. The book includes an instructor's manual with test items. In addition to the usual test items (containing multiple choice, true/false, and essay discussion questions), the author included discussion questions and activities, examples of lectures, and tips specifically targeting new instructors.
